The Horatio Alger Association Announces Acceptance into Combined Federal Campaign of the National Capital Area
Organization Honoring the American Dream through Need-Based Scholarships is Eligible for Federal Employee Donations

Washington, D.C. (July 14, 2008) – The Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans is pleased to announce its inclusion in the 2008 Combined Federal Campaign of the National Capital Area (CFCNCA).  The Association, one of the largest need-based scholarship programs in the country, is now eligible to receive donations from Federal Government employees seeking to donate to qualified and reputable charities. The CFCNCA is the largest and most successful employee workplace giving campaign in the world with more than 48% of all Federal employees in the Washington Metropolitan Area contributing.

“We are privileged to be one of the selected charities in the nation to be a part of this generous giving campaign,” said David L. Sokol, Horatio Alger Association President and CEO.  “As part of the enlisted charities presented to Federal Government employees, we hope our mission to honor our nation’s most ambitious youth and to highlight exceptional American achievements is acknowledged.  We are grateful for any support that is provided to the Horatio Alger Association.”

The Horatio Alger Association was selected to the campaign because of its continuing efforts to help students further their education for over six decades.  Association Members and donors support young people who have demonstrated integrity and perseverance in overcoming hardships, showed strength of character, have excelled in academics, held a commitment to pursue a college education and a desire to contribute to society.

The Horatio Alger Association administers scholarships through its three annual programs across the country: the Horatio Alger National Scholarship Program, the Horatio Alger State Scholarship Programs and the Horatio Alger Military Veterans Scholarship Program. In 2008 alone, the Horatio Alger Association has awarded over $12 million in scholarships.

Through the campaign, Federal Government employees have the opportunity to donate a portion of their paychecks to various local, national and international charities and foundations. For donation information, please contact the Combined Federal Campaign of the National Capital Area at 202-659-2209.
