
Horatio Alger Association Celebrates its 65th Anniversary
April 23, 2012, WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans, Inc., was proud to host its 65th Anniversary Awards Induction Ceremonies on April 12-14, 2012. The Association congratulates its 2012 New Member class: Dr. Wanda M. Austin, Dr. James H. Clark, Foster Stephen Freiss, Kenneth G. Langone, Howard M. Meyers, Robert G. Miller, John A. Moran, The Right Honorable Brian Mulroney, Greg P. Renker, V. Prem Watsa, John H. Weiland, and Clarence L. Werner for receiving the Horatio Alger Award. The Association also salutes Chairman Emeritus Dennis R. Washington as the recipient of the 2012 Norman Vincent Peale Award given in appreciation for his continued support of the Association and his outstanding philanthropic endeavors.
The Association also had the pleasure of hosting the 2012 National Scholarship winners. These 102 high school seniors were afforded an all-expense-paid trip to Washington D.C., to participate in the National Scholar Conference held concurrently with the Horatio Alger Awards Induction Ceremonies. Some of the highlights of the conference included a
visit to the Supreme Court hosted by Association Member Justice Clarence Thomas, a speech by actor and movie producer Rob Lowe at the U.S. State Department, and a visit to Georgetown University. Both the Scholars and the Members were in attendance at the Awards Induction Ceremony on Friday, April 13, where both were honored for outstanding achievements and inspiring resolve in triumphing over adversity.
