The Horatio Alger Association is Reminding High School Students of October 30th Deadline for 2009 Scholarships
$10 Million Available for College Scholarships for Deserving Applicants
(September 30, 2008 – Washington, DC) – The Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans is announcing a reminder to high school seniors across the country that the deadline for submitting applications for the 2009 Horatio Alger National and State Scholarship Programs is Thursday, October 30, 2008. This is a unique opportunity to gain the financial assistance that is so crucial for many seeking a bachelors degree, and ultimately, a brighter future. The Horatio Alger Association annually awards more than $10 million in college scholarships to American high school students, graduate students and military veterans.
The Horatio Alger Association has become one of the largest need-based scholarship programs in the country. The scholarships are awarded to students who have demonstrated integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity in their lives while demonstrating strength of character, strong academics, a commitment to pursue a college education and making contributions to society.
Students from all 50 states, as well as the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, are encouraged to apply for the scholarship programs. In 2008, the program awarded more than 1,000 national and state scholarships. $20,000 was awarded to each of the 108 National Scholars. The State Scholarship Programs are sponsored by Horatio Alger Members and friends of the Association in all 50 states, and each program provides financial assistance ranging from $2,500 to $10,500.
