Scholarships awarded to deserving students from the Washington, D.C. metro area in the following counties:
- District of Columbia
- Maryland: Anne Arundel, Charles, Frederick, Howard, Montgomery, and Prince George's
- Virginia: Arlington, City of Alexandria, City of Fairfax, City of falls Church, City of Manassas, City of Manassas Park, Fairfax, and Prince William
The Horatio Alger District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to students in the counties listed above who have exhibited integrity and perseverance in overcoming personal adversity and who aspire to pursue higher education.
Eligibility
To be eligible to apply for the Horatio Alger District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia Scholarship Program, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- be enrolled full time as a high school senior in one of the listed counties, progressing normally toward graduation in the spring/early summer 2008, and planning to enter college no later than the fall following graduation;
- have a strong commitment to pursue a bachelor's degree at an accredited institution (students may start their studies at a two-year institution and then transfer to a four-year institution);
- critical financial need ($50,000 or less adjusted gross income per family is preferred; if higher, an explanation must be provided);
- involvement in co-curricular and community activities;
- be a citizen of the United States
- and be a resident one of the following counties: District of Columbia; Anne Arundel, Charles, Frederick, Howard, Montgomery, or Prince George's in Maryland; or Arlington, City of Alexandria, City of Fairfax, City of falls Church, City of Manassas, City of Manassas Park, Fairfax, or Prince William in Virginia.
