The University of Montana Foundation matches this award so that the total grant amount will equal $10,000 to be disbursed over the student's college career

The Horatio Alger Montana Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to students in the State of Montana who have exhibited integrity and perseverance in overcoming personal adversity and who aspire to pursue higher education at The University of Montana, The University of Montana-Western, The University of Montana-Missoula College of Technology, Helena College of Technology of The University of Montana, or Montana Tech of The University of Montana. Funds will only be disbursed to those recipients who enroll at one of the specified colleges and will not be transferable to another institution. The colleges listed above have pledged to match the scholarship amount dollar for dollar for each scholarship recipient.

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for the Horatio Alger Montana Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • be enrolled full time as a high school senior in Montana, progressing normally toward graduation, and planning to enter college no later than the fall following graduation;
  • must pursue a bachelor's degree at The University of Montana, The University of Montana-Western, The University of Montana-Missoula College of Technology, Helena College of Technology of The University of Montana, or Montana Tech of The University of Montana;
  • critical financial need ($50,000 or less adjusted gross income per family is preferred; if higher, an explanation must be provided);
  • involvement in co-curricular and community activities;
  • demonstrate academic achievement (minimum grade point average of 2.0);
  • be a resident of Montana; and
  • be a citizen of the United States
