The 77th Annual #HoratioAlgerAwards was an incredible celebration of 11 New Members, each of whom exemplifies the core values of the Association – perseverance, integrity and a commitment to achieving the #AmericanDream. Throughout the weekend, 102 Scholars – who represented nearly 1,800 new scholarship recipients from the Association in 2023 – were also honored for their hard work, passion for education and resilience in the face of adversity.

The Awards events featured a special gathering at the National Portrait Gallery during which 2017 #HoratioAlgerMember and @abcnews anchor @byronpittsabc honored 1995 #HoratioAlgerMember Dennis Washington and his wife, Phyllis, with the prestigious Walter Scott, Jr. Leadership Award. This Award recognizes the substantial impact they’ve had on deserving young people and their unwavering dedication to advancing the Association’s mission through their leadership and exemplary support. The weekend also featured a ceremony at DAR Constitution Hall hosted by 2022 #HoratioAlgerMember @janeseymour, where Scholars from the past four decades – in recognition of the 40th anniversary of the Scholarship Program – spoke about the profound effect of the Association on their lives.

The Horatio Alger Awards bring to life our commitment to promoting the American Dream and giving back to the next generation of exceptional leaders. We are deeply grateful for the continued support of our Members, Life Partners, Legacy Ambassadors and friends who, due to their profound generosity, enabled us to raise more than $16 million in support of our Scholarship Program at this year’s gathering.

We are proud to announce that Lesley Albanese has been named Chief Executive Officer of the Horatio Alger Association. She succeeds Terrence J. Giroux, who served the Association for 36 years and concluded his tenure as Executive Director at the close of the 77th Annual #HoratioAlgerAwards this past weekend. Lesley will be working closely with Constantine Katsarakis who has assumed the role of Chief Operating Officer after 12 years of various leadership roles within the Association, most recently as Associate Executive Director.

Join us in congratulating Lesley and Constantine. We look forward to continuing to grow our reach and impact under their leadership.
